There are many types of stone that can be found whilst wandering around the local countryside. They may be seemingly miraculous rock formations created by the ravages of natural forces; ancient constructs created for artistic, religious, scientific or mystical reasons; or more recent monuments to Man's endeavour. Some of the ones I find particularly interesting are shown on these pages.

  Megalithic Monuments
These are ancient monuments up to 4000 years old constructed for numerous reasons. The most famous is probably Stonehenge in Wiltshire, however there are many more which can be more of a challenge to find.

Hill Figures
These images, typically inscribed into the chalk hills of Wiltshire but found throughout the UK, can be ancient as in the White Horse of Uffington or modern as in the Regimental Badges at Fovant.

Rune Stones
These more modern monuments are found in Sweden and are typically inscribed stones commemorating their endeavours in the Viking era.
